i get teased whenever i wear my supermaggie scarf. at work, my manager nearly fell on the floor laughing. then he insisted on each one of my coworkers trying on the scarf. then he brought in people from other departments to make fun of it.
the most common comparison is "kermit", but

i got some blonde streaks, but i can't really get them to show up. for some reason the flash makes it look more natural, but in person it's streaky and unnatural (which is okay, since natural is not generally my preference when it comes to haircolor.)
.. but i have yet to visit it.

the party i was scheduled to dj at did not get busted. yet due to various unfortunate circumstances, i missed both the times i was scheduled to play. i think the zodiac stage was packed up earlier that day. i thought i might be able to make amends on the psytrance stage by playing sunday, but the owner of the turntables packed 'em up and left only cdjs behind. :( i only play vinyl.
ah well, i still had a good time... good company and the venue was quite lovely :) i was fond of jesiah's shirtless + tie + sarong look.
badly sunburned though. ow ow ow.

i don't see my brother often, which is too bad. he's pretty cool and i am a lot closer to him than to my parents. this weekend i tried to help him celebrate his recent high school graduation properly.
saturday him & a friend went to zaina to enjoy smoking a hookah and getting hit on by older women in the bar. next i got them boozed/smoked up and took em to the capitol hill arts center where naha, mea and others were dj'ing.
ah, the memories. i spent my post-hs-grad at future soul festival listening to someone drop hardkiss' 'delusions of grandeur' in between sets.

i smiled because people regularly tell me that i don't smile enough in my pictures. but i didn't really feel like smiling, and the combination of that and the normal hair makes me feel like an undercover agent. i tell jenny to do whatever she wants, and apparently she wanted to curl it.
i'm sick and feeling pretty awful. i skipped a fun party last night to go home and sleep :(
my family is being unusually kind to me, though. i'd parked my car at their house for the detroit trip. when i got back, my dad had gotten my oil changed, washed the car, and cleaned it.
they also gave me a ton of fruit which couldn't have come at a better time to combat this terrible illness.

i enjoyed eddie's set more than x dream's. it was actually only 1/2 of x dream.. the other half was sick or something. and he didn't start until 4am.
i had a good time though. the new layout of the lish house was weird..
there's something very comforting about looking around and seeing people that i danced with 11 years ago still dancing next to me. it felt like going home.

i forgot that if you submit a photo of yourself wearing a threadless shirt, they give you $1.50 credit.. so that was today's project.
i'm absolutely in love with the new emotional trip design. it seems like the perfect shirt to wear to work.

i was reminded saturday of why i love all ages parties (well, good ones anyway).
if you're a good dj and play an amazing, well-mixed set of dance music at 10:30 pm at a 21+ event, you'll most likely be playing to an empty floor while everyone stands around at the sides of the room sipping their drinks and stroking their chin.
whereas if you're an unskilled dj and play a questionably mixed set of downtempo at a good all-ages event at 10:30pm, people will dance to anything remotely danceable (with hands in the air even), clap for you, smile at you, and generally be quite encouraging.
(however, even though i didn't see anyone who looked 21+ dancing, all the people who trainspotted and/or came to talk to me after i was done seemed 21+.)
as usual i thought my set was ass but everyone was really supportive and cool.
i'm not going to play out again for a long time and plan on practicing a lot.. but despite my anxiety, that was the best experience i've had playing out thus far.
the rest of the weekend was equally enjoyable.. i joined
heckzotica's garage sale and got rid of some of the crap that's been making the apartment unmanageable, had good food at the globe,
record shopping with gustav & his nyc friend & dinner at the snappy dragon, and showed up at rebar on sunday to discover that garth was spinning. i made some new friends at rebar, too.. a pair of breakdancing best friends whose style was like watching dancefloor theatre, and bernard, a longtime househead who apparently used to throw events at buzz in dc in the early 90s. but i do regret missing out on the birthday parties and other fun stuff that was going on this weekend and hope that everyone else had as much fun as i did.

i went down, down, down and the flames went higher.
