i donate to livejournal more out of a desire to support the site than out of wanting new features. even though i'm a member of
paidmembers i haven't been watching it and rarely read it.
today i read it for the first time in awhile and discovered that there's now a pingback feature that notifies you when another paid user links to an entry you posted. if you pay for lj and you're willing to link to this post temporarily for purposes of testing, that would be awesome.
you can also now order your friends list by day. i have so many people on my friendslist that if i don't have time to read lj for a short period i often get so many posts that i can't click "previous" anymore, so that rocks.
other features i was unaware of:
- view someone else's journal in your own style if the one they picked is hideous/hard to read
- view only the entries you posted friends-only or to a private group
sweet!

is there a way to easily see which posts you locked to a given friends group?
for example, i once created one named 'seattle', and attempted to put everyone local in it. i figured that there was no reason people across the world needed to hear about my upcoming dinner party. so i want to find all the posts i made to custom friends group 'seattle' without going through all of my past entries.
i searched
lj_nifty to no avail.

i am SO EXCITED about lj adding tags. using memories as if they were tags didn't work well. i really fell in love with tags while using flickr and delicious.
there have been so many times when i think "i KNOW i posted xxxx on livejournal years ago" but since there's no real search engine, it took forever to find the old post. it's going to take a long time to go back through my past entries and add tags to them, though. :/

- Music:coworker singing "funk soul brother" to himself in odd voice
i'm not getting emails with comments on my lj posts today. the email address itself works, so it must be something with my isp. if you commented on something older, i won't see the notification.

i don't understand the point of the new mutual friends feature on lj. if i haven't added someone back, it's often just because i don't have time.. i can barely keep up with reading the journals of the people i've already added. why would you want to single people out by making it blatantly obvious who you'd added and who you hadn't? i mean, anyone who really cares can look at your userinfo and figure it out.. but why would you want to make it blatantly obvious by putting them in their own category? seems very harsh..
i created a new community,
sonarfestival. i'm so obsessed with sonar, an amazing 3-day electronic music/indie/hiphop festival in barcelona. hopefully i'll be able to return this year.
i had an interesting conversation yesterday about the politics of online "friends".
do you feel comfortable when random people add you on:
- livejournal?
- orkut/friendster/myspace/tribe?
- instant messenger?
we both felt that friendster/orkut/etc. were supposedly for friends that you actually really know.. and that it was generally odd when random people added us and expected us to add them back.
however, i don't feel that way about livejournal or instant messaging software..
