the new headphones have arrived. etymotic only makes the headphones with added bass in white (the er 6i model)... the black ones are all flat response. the ipod headphones really don't have a lot of bass anyway, so i decided to give the black ones a shot.
they sound better. it's going to take me awhile to get used to not being able to hear anything outside the headphones, though. even when the music isn't turned on they work similarly to earplugs. if the sound is on even at a low volume it completely drowns out my coworkers. which is definitely not a bad thing, but i'd be nervous about wearing them while walking near traffic. it'll be great for planes and riding the bus though. and probably the gym too - some reviews complained about being able to hear their breathing and the noise the cord makes when it rubs on your clothes but i don't find it that much of an issue.
